You wouldn’t want an uncomfortable chair at home where you spend most of your evenings would you? Then why would you want one at the office? A lot of us wind up spending just as much time at the office as we do at home. So that noted, the comfort of our office chair should be taken as seriously as the comfort of our home chair.
As with everything, obviously not all chairs are going to be equal. While I am focusing on office chairs under 200, some will be more expensive than others. There might be height differences or weight differences which make it harder to get to certain places. You might want a full back chair, a mid back chair or even a stool. The bottom line is, there are ten chairs listed because not everyone is looking for the same thing. Now without further chatter here are the top 10 best office chairs under 200 in 2016.
1. AmazonBasics High-Back Executive Chair – Black
Right off the bat, we will see that this chair is the 1 seller in executive and managerial chairs. It features a padded seat and back as well as 360 degree turning ability. It has a maximum weight capacity of 250 lbs. and comes with a one year warranty from the manufacturer. It does not breathe as well as other leather chairs do so the cold feeling that comes with leather chairs does not last as long.
Now the only problem with this chair is the coating on the armrests will wear off fairly quickly; if you can overlook the cosmetic flaw, this is a very good chair.
2. AmazonBasics Mid-Back Office Chair
This one is completely leather unlike the first listing which was still part pleather. It has a much shorter back than the previous listing as well. It should also be noted, should it make any difference, that this chair has a weight capacity of 225 lbs. It also comes with a one year warranty from its manufacturer. This chair is easy to set up but there are reports of it breaking with full time use. It is comfortable to sit in for a part time work; but not full time.
3. Boss Caressoft Medical Stool, black
Here we have a completely different kind of chair. It is a medical stool. If price is your only factor this would obviously be cheaper than either of the other chairs. On the plus side it is easy to put together. The height on this one works very well. But I am having a hard time recommending it because of reports that the stool squishes when you sit on it to the point that you feel like you will slide off one side or the other.
4. Alera Elusion Series Mesh High-Back Multifunction Chair, Black
This one is more expensive than the other high back chair that is listed above. However, it is also more comfortable. The mesh back makes the chair more comfortable than the strictly leather. The other thing that makes this chair more comfortable than the first chair on the list is, it allows for easier tilting. This chair is very comfortable; even if it is needed to sit in it for 12 hours a day, seven days a week. If I had to pick one chair, this is my recommendation so far.
5. SPACE Seating AirGrid Dark Back and Black Mesh Seat, 2-to-1 Synchro Tilt Control, Adjustable Arms and Tilt Tension with Nylon Base Managers Chair
This chair is similar to the one that is listed above it. The arm rests on this one seem to dig a little though. Further there are mobility concerns with this chair because of the arm rests being bulkier than they are on the previous chair that is listed. It makes wandering around the office while sitting awkward where it does not need to be. It is included on the list because as I said earlier, not everyone will want the same chair.
6. basyx by HON HVL210 Task Chair for Office or Computer Desk, Black
The first thing I notice about this chair is that there are no arm rests in the first place. It is a mesh seat as the previous two. But in my opinion the lack of arm rests immediately make it less comfortable regardless of how comfortable the actual seat is. On the plus side, it is cheaper than the previous two chairs listed; this might be why. This is not my first recommendation; however, I understand that some people are looking to cut corners expenses wise wherever they can.
7. AmazonBasics Mid-Back Mesh Chair
Here we have a chair with arm rests that is cheaper than the others that have them. AmazonBasics frequently is cheaper than other brands and does come with the assurance that you are buying from Amazon and not a third party. An important thing to note if it would be relevant for you is that the weight limit on this chair is 225 not 250. Also the arm rests are adjustable but short; it seems as though this chair is geared more towards women then men for that reason. Or at least shorter people.
8. AmazonBasics Low-Back Task Chair
So far at least, this is the winner for a bargain office chair that is actually a chair. It has a 250 lb. maximum and comes with a one year warranty from the manufacturer. There are no arm rests and the back is not adjustable. Not that it should be a big deal but it can turn 360 degrees. This one I can only recommend for part time use as more than that and the padding will break down within a few weeks to months. As of when this was written as far as price goes this one is the best but not in the comfort department.
9. Serta 43506 Bonded Leather Big & Tall Executive Chair, Brown
Here we have the second executive chair on the list; this is the first one in the color brown. This one also offers much better lower back support than the chair listed at the beginning of this article. This one is my biggest recommendation for big and tall guys as it actually will support up to 300 lbs. It is more expensive than the previous chair, but at times you do get what you pay for. Highly recommended for tall people if you are not trying to be cheap.
10. High Back White Leather Executive Swivel Office Chair with Flip-Up Arms
We have the third executive chair with two unique features. One it is white. Two it is the only executive chair to have the flip up arms. The black accents make this chair the most attractive out the executive chairs and the weight limit is 250 lbs. Since it is coated leather it should be easy to clean but that does not take away that white gets dirty faster in the first place than any other color. In a nutshell, which chair you want is subjective to you.
So there are the top 10 best office chairs under 200 in 2016. It is important to bear in mind that the price of the chair is based on sales that were in place at the time that this review was written. So I cannot guarantee that the price will remain under 200. Now that that is out of the way, we saw executive chairs, mid level chairs and a medical stool. The first thing that would determine which chair is best for you is what chair you want to begin with.
Now as far as the executive chairs first I want to note that I am for women’s rights 110% so that hopefully no one takes offense to this. But there are height restrictions with this chair so I do not recommend them for short women. Obviously I’d say the same about a man under 5’6″ but that fits women a lot more frequently than men. As a 5’1″ woman myself, that would love to be an executive, I would not pick most executive chairs…the reason is your legs are going to dangle and eventually that is going to hurt and make the chair uncomfortable. This is especially true of the Serta executive chair; so much so that I would only recommend that one to big and tall men.
As far as the mid back chairs go, my recommendation would depend. Would you want the chair for full time use or just part time? If you want it for full time, the only one I would recommend is the Elera. For part time use I would suggest the basyx. Then there is the AmazonBasics mid-back which has the opposite effect that the executive chairs do. That one is the chair I would recommend for the women under 5’6″. It is also the chair I would recommend if you are a strictly a bargain hunter and that is your only concern.
There is my review of the top 10 best office chairs under 200 in 2016. I hope that it helped you.
